333 Wells in September

ONE IN SIX PEOPLE ON THE PLANET DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO SAFE, CLEAN DRINKING WATER.

I received an email from Twitter where they announced a special initiative from Scott Harrison.

Scott turns 33 this month and he already has everything he could want. Instead of gifts, Scott hopes to bring clean drinking water to those without it. If you’re up for it, check out Scott’s web site and help him reach his goal of digging 333 water wells across Ethiopia--this month. Visit http://www.charitywater.org/

What a great way to celebrate a birthday! I was blown away with what invisible children have done since their first film and I truly believe that Scott will get his 333 wells and a whole lot more. It takes passion and determination to get things like this done. Already, funds to dig up 40 wells were raised, so that’s a great start!

Zamzar, an online file converter

file converter

The image explains it all!

I used to have a converter installed for almost everything until this site came up. Zamzar does it all: image, document, music, and video file type conversion… There is also an “other” category for converting archived files (zip, rar, etc..). I still have to test it thoroughly, but I am pleased with the service so far!

Vanity Cards

big bang theory

So, I was catching up on the last episodes of the The Big Bang Theory (season 1) and there was something I noticed at the end of almost every video that I thought was really cool. Chuck Lorre - big fan of his work - had started a series of vanity cards where at the end of every episode of all his shows, he’d display a thought. Pretty cool, here is one:

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #210

I believe that in order to walk through grief, fear, loneliness, despair, confusion and anger without recourse to drugs, alcohol, over-eating, over-sexing, or the endless mind-numbing distractions provided by Western culture, one must become a spiritual warrior. I further believe that the pay-off for enduring suffering, for soberly embracing the inevitable bouts of emotional pain that life brings, is wisdom and serenity in the face of calamity. But make no mistake here, the path of the warrior is treacherous and cannot be walked alone. To survive, he must have brothers and sisters-in-arms to carry him when he buckles. When we lived and died in small tribes, this principle of mutually supporting one another through the trials of life was deeply woven into the fabric of the group mind. With the advent of towns and cities we were forced to live with the daily dilemma of being desperately alone and yet desperately needing one another. Which is why we are, by design, always seeking new tribes. With that in mind, I humbly offer a simple guideline to evaluate the efficacy of any tribe you might encounter on your path to becoming a spiritual warrior: if they ask for your money or access to your crotch, run away. If they ask for your money, smile unceasingly, never blink, and guarantee to make you a demi-god, running away will not suffice. Change your mailing address and briefly reconsider drugs, alcohol, food, sex and TV.

Always good to see stuff like that on TV. You can read more at: http://www.chucklorre.com/

Silverback for Usability Testing

silverback app

Usability testing is very crucial but not many seem to care for it. When a software or a website is developed, it should be simple enough for anyone to use without really having to use the help reference, but not too simple to make the user feel stupid. This is where Silverback comes in! It is a great application that makes it very easy to perform usability tests. I have been trying it out for a couple of months now and its pretty cool.

It runs on Mac OS only and has great features including: capture screen activity and video/audio recording of the participant’s reactions.

Cost: $50.

Thank You GPIC!

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company

To the respectable GM of GPIC, Mr. Abdulrahman Jawahery,
To the respectable DGM of GPIC, Mr. Yousif Abdalla Yousif,
To Mr. Sami Khairi,
To Mr. Adnan Al-Mahmood,
To ITK department team members,
and to all staff members at GPIC,

I have been training at the IT and Knowledge department for the past two months, and it has been a great privilege and a great honor to be able to experience the work environment in a wonderful company that you lead.

On the outset, I would like to thank Mr. Abdulrahman Jawahery for the wonderful time I have spent at GPIC. It has been a great benchmark for me. I was inspired right from the first day and wanted to do my best and strive to make a difference that GPIC lives to do. I remember the first day I was interviewed with Mr. Adnan AL-Mahmoud, he promised me that in my two months in training, I would get the same experience as if I were an employee at GPIC for a whole year.

I am very proud to say, I have received a whole lot more than a year of work experience!
