ahamshay blogs…

artwork

There seems to be a confusion, so I think I should explain a bit about how this site works.

There are actually two sites, an English and Arabic site, both of them have different posts, they are not the same blog but translated. I have decided to write simple tech posts in the Arabic blog and keep the English blog for the general posts like travel, book & gadget reviews and programming articles as shown in the ”tech blog”.

I do recommend using RSS feeds for the English or Arabic website, or both! That way, you can keep track of all new posts or you can always check the archive page for the English or the Arabic site.

Happy Ramadan,
Shaymaa

Trip to Ethiopia

Ethiopia

Recently, we went on a trip to Ethiopia and I decided to share my experience. Not many tourists select Ethiopia as their destination and the reason is pretty obvious; there’s not much tourist infrastructure there and the only reason foreigners show up is to pick up their adopted children or to start a business. Basically, you won’t have to worry about crowds of tourists. Ethiopia is the 2nd-most populous nation in Africa and the official language is Amharic that is written in the Ge’ez script. You will find many English and Arabic speakers.

First Impressions

The landscape is amazing, the people are very nice, the sense of history is tangible. Ethiopia is pretty pleasant all year round, with temperatures in Addis Ababa averaging around 20°C (68°F) no matter what the season! They say the best time of the year is in Early October, just after the rains. Our trip took place in early August, so it was raining on and off, but even then, the country was wonderfully green, the wildflowers were stunning and everyone was preparing for the New Millennium!

View Folder Size in Windows Explorer

view file size

When you’re using Windows Explorer and you want to know the size of any folder, you usually have to right-click on the folder icon and view its properties. It gets kinda exhausting after some time, so I found a way that is much easier. You can install a little software/plugin that will allow you to add a column to Windows Explorer and view all of your folders’ sizes.

Back up entire ipod to your Windows PC

ipod nano

Even though you can use third-party applications like iDump to selectively choose which tracks you want to import to your PC, there is another way to it - inconvenient but works to get ALL tracks.
On your Windows PC, start of by enabling hidden folders to be viewed.

Hello World!

artwork

Finally. It’s here! I’ve been meaning to start this blog for quite a while now — and I am so glad the day has come. I have decided to start this blog to share my thoughts, reviews, and tutorials on programming, design and anything that hits me on the road as I venture through life.

In the meantime, please explore my website and check out my portfolio and photography at my Flickr page.

Adios Amigos!
