Not-So-Zain

Zain

I recently purchased a GSM from Zain, in Bahrain, and after using it for two weeks now, I thought I have to talk about the experience here.

Some friends told me that Zain-Bahrain offers a unique service that Kuwait doesn’t. It goes like this: if you make/receive an international call from Zain-Kuwait both the receiver and caller will be charged for the call. Whereas, if you receive an international call to your Zain-Bahrain, only the calling party will be charged. Same thing goes for making and international call from Zain-Bahrain, only the caller will be charged.

So, I thought that was cool, and I wanted to try it by calling my buddies in Kuwait. Only, I never was able to make an international call until after 4 or 5 attempts. The connection never makes it, and when it did, the receiver gets a random number calling them. So, if I happen to leave them a missed call, they wouldn’t know it was me!!! I thought this was ridiculous and went to Zain, but they claim that this is handled by the receiving country’s operator [Kuwait’s, in my case], and that the random number issue is very common and they can’t do anything about it!

I am hoping someone can explain this!
